NUTCRACKER COMMITMENT

Please review the following information carefully "before registering your dancer."

PERFORMANCE

**Tentative Performance Date:** - Sunday, December 13, 2026
**Alternate Performance Date:** - Sunday, December 20, 2026
**Performance Venue:** - To Be Confirmed

Because theater availability is still being finalized, families must keep **both December 13 and December 20 available** until the final performance date and venue are announced.

AUDITIONS — SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3

**Ages 4–6:** 1:00 PM
**Ages 7+:** 2:00 PM

Every registered dancer will be included in the production. Our audition process is informal, encouraging and designed to help our faculty determine the role best suited to each dancer.

All casting and role assignments are at the discretion of the Darien School of Dance Director and faculty.

Four-year-old dancers must be comfortable separating from a parent/caregiver and be able to independently follow class directions.

Casting and individual rehearsal schedules will be distributed the following week.

SATURDAY REHEARSALS

Rehearsals begin **Saturday, October 10** at the YWCA and will take place on Saturday afternoons between approximately **1:00–5:00 PM.**

Most dancers will be assigned a 30–45 minute rehearsal within that window and will **not** be required for the entire afternoon. Exact rehearsal times will be determined following casting.

**Regular attendance at scheduled Nutcracker rehearsals is expected of all participating dancers.** Because each dancer is part of a larger cast, absences affect not only the individual dancer but also the other dancers rehearsing with them.

If an unavoidable conflict or illness arises during the rehearsal period, please notify Mrs. Fulton as soon as possible.

MANDATORY DRESS REHEARSAL

Dress rehearsal will take place at the performance venue on the **Saturday immediately preceding the performance, approximately 12:00–4:00 PM.**

**Attendance at the entire dress rehearsal is mandatory for ALL participating dancers, including our youngest performers. A dancer who cannot attend the mandatory dress rehearsal cannot participate in the performance.**

Dress rehearsal is when dancers learn their entrances, exits, spacing, backstage procedures and transitions in the actual theater and when the individual dances are brought together into one complete production.

Please keep the Saturdays preceding **both tentative performance dates** available until our theater and performance date are officially confirmed.

***The Nutcracker*** is a significant undertaking for our small school and cannot be produced successfully without the support of our dance  families.

PARTICIPATION FEE & PAYMENT POLICY

Participation Fee: $300 per dancer.

The participation fee includes:

  • Saturday Nutcracker rehearsals
  • Use of Nutcracker costumes
  • Parent photo opportunity at dress rehearsal
  • Participation in the performance
  • Digital download of the performance

Costumes are provided on loan and do not need to be purchased separately.
The participation fee helps offset the considerable expenses associated with producing ***The
Nutcracker***, including rehearsal space, costumes, theater rental, technical personnel, fire and
safety personnel, insurance, sets and other production expenses.
Payment is required at the time of registration in order to complete your dancer's registration
and secure placement in the production.
**Once the production is confirmed, participation fees are non-refundable.** If Darien School of
Dance is ultimately unable to secure an appropriate performance venue and the 2026
Nutcracker production cannot proceed, participation fees will be refunded in full

PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT & RELEASE

I understand that participation in Darien School of Dance's 2026 production of  ***The Nutcracker***  involves dance instruction, rehearsals and a theatrical performance.

I hereby waive and release any claims against Darien School of Dance LLC, the YWCA Darien/ Norwalk, and their respective agents, teachers, directors and representatives for injury or illness arising from my child's participation in Darien School of Dance activities at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk or at the designated rehearsal or performance venue, to the extent permitted by law.

I understand that all casting decisions are at the discretion of the Director and faculty of Darien School of Dance and that requests for particular roles cannot be accommodated.

I understand that the performance date, rehearsal date(s), times and venue may change due to theater availability.

By signing below, I acknowledge that I have read and understand the **2026 Nutcracker Registration & Participation Form**, including the rehearsal requirements, mandatory dress rehearsal policy, casting policy, tentative performance dates, participation fee and parent volunteer information, and agree to the terms stated above.

**I also understand and agree that my child's photograph, video or image may be used by Darien School of Dance in school-related promotional materials, including the school's website, social media, newsletters and other  school communications.**

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: OCTOBER 2, 2026

Registration is complete only when the completed registration form and participation fee have both been received.
